Our own Father Anthony Corcoran, son of the late Bob and Elaine Corcoran, who was baptized at St. Andrew’s in April 1963, has been elevated to the Episcopal Dignity! Fr. Anthony has been the Apostolic Administrator of Kyrgyzstan since 2017 and now has been named the first Roman Catholic Bishop of that largely Muslim country. As you know, Bishop-Elect Anthony, served most of his Priesthood in Russia – in Siberia – in a number of roles before being named Apostolic Administrator of Kyrgyzstan. Here is a little more of his curriculum vitae: He received a degree in Political Science from Marquette University, a Master’s degree in International Economics of Development from Fordham University, and a Bachelor’s degree in Theology from Weston School of Theology. He was Ordained a Priest on 8 June 1996 for the Society of JESUS (Jesuits). He pursued further studies and held the following positions: licentiate in Spiritual Theology at Weston School of Theology (1997); director of the Pre-Seminary in Novosibirsk, Russia, (1998–2000 and 2007–2008); spiritual director of the same Pre-Seminary (2001–2005); parish Priest of Saint Joseph Parish in Berdsk, diocese of the Transfiguration in Novosibirsk (1998–2008); vicar general of the diocese of the Transfiguration in Novosibirsk (1999–2008); a Doctorate in Moral Theology at Weston School of Theology (2006); superior of the Russian Region of the Society of Jesus (2009–2017). Bishop-Elect Anthony considers St. Andrew’s his “home Parish”, not only because he was baptized here, but because of his many visits over the years to see his parents and the many connections he has made and maintained with our parishioners. He was “home” with us last September and has indicated that he hopes to visit us this Fall! There is much excitement over this announcement, not only for our Parish but also for the Diocese of Tucson, as he will be the first Priest born and baptized in the Diocese to be named a Bishop! We are waiting for word about the date and place of his Ordination to the Episcopacy! (Our other “Priest/Sons” serving the Church are: Fr. Bob Gonzales, Fr. Michael Bucciarelli, Fr. Chris Orndorff, Fr. Dale Branson, Fr. Rob Neske, and Fr. Richard Rivera! (We also like to count Fr. Charles (Carlos) Nagore – to be Ordained to the Priesthood next Saturday – as one of our “Priest/Sons”!) Please pray for all of our “Priest/Sons” and pray for Vocations!
