Did You Know?

Our (East entrance) St. Michael’s Chapel honors our military – active and retired – and pays special honor to our Chaplains! Among those especially honored in in our St. Michael’s Chapel are Fr. John Kastigar, Fr. John Borley, and Fr. Walter Kras (living) each of whom has had a special connection with our Parish!

Since the formal dedication of the St. Michael’s Chapel on the 4th of July 2008, we have continued to add special features to the Chapel to honor our servicemen and servicewomen: the light fixture suspended from the ceiling is a combat helmet from the Vietnam War and the sconce includes the emblems of the Army, Navy, Air Force and Marines. The flag displayed in the Chapel flew over the Pentagon on 9/11. The Marines donated the ceremonial sword inscribed with the names of Marines. The window in the Chapel features a purple heart. Our Chapel is a special place of remembrance for all who have served and are currently serving in the Armed Services. We also honor in a special way, the Catholic Chaplains who have served at Fort Huachuca. We have a listing of those dedicated Priests and their years of service at Fort Huachuca permanently displayed in the Chapel -- going back to (Chaplain) Fr. John P. Jennings, who could be described as one of the co-Founders of St. Andrew the Apostle, because of his involvement in and support of the very beginnings of our Parish! The wonderful cooperation and sharing of ministry between the Post Chapel/Catholic Community (Holy Family Parish) and St. Andrew’s goes back over 65 years! We, of course, are very blessed to have an Army Chaplain (Ranger) of 20 years’ service, serving our Parish today – our own Fr. Rob Neske!

Take a moment to stop into St. Michael’s Chapel and say a prayer for our wonderful Chaplains – and ALL who have served or are presently serving in our military!

Join us for Mass on Friday, the 4th of July and give thanks to God for our freedom and for those who have lived and served and died to secure that freedom – under God!

DON’T FORGET – the “Patriotic Pipes Organ Concert” Friday evening, 11 July, here at St. Andrew’s at 7:00 PM – showing off the newly refurbished 1949 Moeller pipe organ – and thrilling you with great music honoring the 4th of July!
